Chennai: 13-year-old girl sexually assaulted by senior police officer

In yet another appalling incident reported from Chennai, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a senior police officer posted in the city.

Police have taken eight people into custody including the accused police officer for allegedly sexually assaulting the minor girl. The police inspector has also been suspended from service.

Washermanpet All Women Police have also taken the kin of the minor into custody under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Information Technology Act for forcing the victim into prostitution.

In the time of the investigation, police found that apart from the 8 accused, another five individuals also sexually exploited the girl. Further probe revealed the involvement of inspector Pugazhenthi, who was attached to Ennore police Station. The inspector had also sexually assaulted the minor.

Following the instruction from Chennai Police Commissioner, inspector Pugazhenthi has been taken into custody and suspended from the service.

A special investigating team (SIT) has also been set up to look into the case.
