Chandigarh Hostel Video Leak: University to remain shut till Sep 24

After a massive protest by the girl students, who were demanding stringent action on the alleged leak of objectionable videos from their girls' hostel, the Chandigarh University administration today decided to shut the university till September 24.

The university has also suspended the girls' hostel warden, Rajvinder Kaur, for alleged misbehaviour with students.


Police have arrested three people in connection to the incident, including the girl who allegedly recorded objectionable videos of fellow hostellers and shared them on social media. Her boyfriend, a resident of Shimla, has also been arrested after the massive protest by girl students. 23-year-old Sunny Mehta works at a travel agency. The second arrested person works at a bakery.

In the viral video, the hostel warden was seen confronting the arrested girl who has been accused of allegedly recording objectionable videos of her fellow hostellers and sending the clips to her boyfriend. Rajvinder Kaur didn’t inform the police about the matter immediately. Kaur also allegedly scolded the students when they started the protest.

After the administration's decision, several girl students left the hostel today. The protest started on September 17 and continues till September 18. The Girl students ended their protest after getting assurance from the district administration that a fair and transparent investigation into the matter.

Students alleged that the girl made several videos of her fellow hostelers while taking a bath in the hostel. These videos were allegedly made viral on social media platforms. The protesting students also claimed that after the videos went viral, girl students living in the hostel attempted suicide. However, police refuted all claims of suicide.
