Caught on cam: Cop dodges traffic, obstacles in dramatic chase to nab thief
A police officer in Karnataka’s Mangaluru chased down a mobile thief who tried to escape after snatching a mobile phone from a person. The cop, identified as Varun Alva has gained popularity on internet as well as a cash reward of Rs 10,000.
The entire episode that happened on Wednesday was captured on camera. The accused has been identified as Harish Poojary, aged 32. The thief laid his hand on a mobile phone from Prem Narayan Yogi, a labourer by profession, who was taking rest in Nehru Maidan.

According to a report by Indian Express, the labourer sounded an alarm and started chasing the thief. Alva, who is an assistant sub-inspector with Mangaluru police, was put on duty at the spot along with a police team.
Alva chased down Poojary and caught him even as his gang members attempted to create diversions. The entire incident was recorded on a mobile phone on Wednesday. The matter surfaced when the clip went viral on the internet.
Police also managed to take another accomplice of Poojary into their custody, while the third accused, identified as Rajesh managed to escape.
Raving about the efforts made by Alva, Mangaluru police commissioner announced cash reward of Rs 10,000 for the officer. As maintained by police, the accused were operating in Mangaluru city and were involved in several such incidents.
