Capt Amarinder Singh to join BJP on September 19
Former Punjab chief minister and Punjab Lok Congress chief Amarinder Singh will join the Bharatiya Janata Party on September 19. Singh will also merge his newly-formed party with the BJP.
The development comes days after Singh met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
"Had a very productive meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji. Discussed various issues pertaining to National security, the rising cases of narco-terrorism in Punjab and the future roadmap for the overall holistic development of Punjab," Singh had tweeted.
The former Congress veteran resigned from the grand old party in November last year, 1.5 months after he was replaced by Charanjit Singh Channi as the Chief Minister of Punjab by the high command. There was a protracted tussle going on between Singh and the then state party chief, Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Amarinder Singh who broke ties with Congress ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections fought the polls in an alliance with the BJP.
