BJP Government Urged to Roll Back 8% Hike in Electricity Tariffs

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh): The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee staged a one-day protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's decision to increase electricity tariffs by 8%.

The protest was held in all block headquarters of Bijapur district, with party workers and leaders demanding that the government roll back the hike.

Vikram Mandavi, MLA, addressed the gathering at the district headquarters and slammed the BJP government for its failure to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people. He alleged that the government had made the state a hub of power cuts, causing immense hardship to the people, especially farmers.

Mandavi pointed out that the Congress government had reduced electricity tariffs by half, but the BJP government had doubled the rates in just six months. He demanded that the government should immediately roll back the hike and provide relief to the people.

CONGRESS HAD INTRODUCED HALF-BILL SCHEME

During its tenure, the Congress government had introduced the 'Half-Bill Scheme', which had benefited 44 lakh domestic consumers in the state. The scheme had resulted in a savings of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per consumer over five years. However, the BJP government had failed to continue the scheme, and the state was now reeling under power cuts.

'BJP GOVERNMENT FAILED TO PROVIDE UNINTERRUPTED POWER SUPPLY'

Mittu Mutaiya, Block President of Bijapur, alleged that the BJP government had failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people, even during peak summer months. He claimed that the government had purchased power from other states to meet the demand, but the current government had failed to do so.

DEMAND FOR ROLL-BACK OF TARIFF HIKE

Lalu Rathaur, District President of Congress, demanded that the government should roll back the 8% hike in electricity tariffs and provide relief to the people. He alleged that the government was imposing a heavy burden on the people by increasing tariffs and failing to provide uninterrupted power supply.

The protest was attended by party workers and leaders from all blocks of Bijapur district, who demanded that the government should take immediate action to address the power crisis in the state.
