Police on Saturday said that two police personnel have been booked for murder in the matter of alleged custodial death of a theft accused in Bengaluru rural district.

A case of murder has been lodged against inspector Raghu and Sub-inspector Rakesh for the alleged custodial death of Munikulla on Friday, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru rural district, Ravi D Channannavar said.

"Yes. A case has been registered and transferred to CID," he said.

The victim identified as Munikulla, who hailed from Nadavatti village, was nabbed by the police on 7th April, his wife Dhahalakshmi said on Saturday.

"Policemen took my husband with them. They beat him up and killed him," she said.

Claiming that Munikulla was a victim of police brutality, Karnataka’s Hoskote MLA Sharath Bachegowda stated that he had filed a complaint with the state DGP Praveen Sood asking for a CID inquiry into the matter.

An FIR was registered against Munikulla on Friday evening on the basis of a complaint by cashier of the liquor store, who had claimed that the CCTV recording displayed victim’s participation.
