Bandra Worli Sea Link road accident: Court sends accused to one-day police custody

In the latest development in the horrific road mishap at Bandra Worli Sea Link, in which five people were killed and eight were injured, a Mumbai court on October 6 sent the accused person to one-day police custody.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Irfan Abdul Raheem Beelkia, has been booked under 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for over speeding and rash driving. Section 304 stands for death by negligence.

The horrific accident took place at Bandra Worli Sea Link road in the early hours of October 5 when injured people, from an earlier accident, were being shifting to an ambulance. An overspeeding car came and collided with the cars, involved in the previous crash, and the ambulance that were parked on the roadside. Relief and rescue operations were conducted with the help of locals.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences for the loss of lives in the car accident on Mumbai's Bandra-Worli Sea Link road."Pained by the loss of lives due to an accident on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope that those who have been injured have a speedy recovery," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted on Wednesday.
