Assam man throws acid on woman who turned down his proposal

In an appalling incident reported from Dibrugarh in Assam, a women was attacked with acid while she was on her way back home from work on Sunday, police said adding that the accused has been taken into custody.

The 33-year-old woman sustained dire injuries and has been taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital for medical attention.

According to the police, the woman had turned down the proposal of the accused following which he threw acid on her.

The incident happened in Dibrugarh’s Mirzabagh area. She was attacked while on her way back home from Sohum Shoppe, her workplace.

A case has been lodged at Dibrugarh police station and police later took Buddhadev Das into custody in connection with the crime.

"We have arrested the person and started interrogation. The woman rejected her proposal and in a fit of rage he attacked the girl with acid on Sunday evening," a police officer said.
