Intelligence official describes how BrahMos engineer Nishant Aggarwal was lured by Pakistan handlers for spying; the details will shock you
The BrahMos engineer Nishant aggarwal who was arrested on Monday for spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, was lured by ‘Pak handlers’ with a hefty pay package, said a source who is the part of the probe his case.
An official was quoted by The Indian Express as saying “His interrogation has revealed that he was promised better job prospects by the handlers who posed as women and honey-trapped him. These accounts have been traced to Pakistan”.
The agencies are investigating that whether Aggarwal passed on sensitive data related to the supersonic cruise missile, Brahmos, to his handlers, who is from Pakistan.
The official said that Aggarwal seem to have passed on information. “Aggarwal seem to have shared some sensitive information in a coded form and we are trying to decode the same,” the official was further quoted.
The investigators are also ascertaining that whether there was any exchange of money between them. The official said “While the money wouldn’t have followed an official channel, but still his bank accounts will be probed to ascertain if there are unexplained funds deposits or transfers”.
Talking about the accused’s role, the official said “Though he was working on a sensitive project that involved national security, he had put out his professional details, including his rank, profile, the nature of the job he handled on social media and professional networking website. This could have been picked up by those trying to look for potential contacts in the Indian defence establishment to get data on country technology”.
