41-year-old woman kills son, hangs self to death, hours after attending husband's funeral

A 41-year-old woman taken an extreme step after her husband’s death in Kolkata’s Howrah district on Monday.

As per a report in The Times of India, the woman killed her physically disabled teenage son and then hanged herself to death, hours after attending the funeral of her husband at a village in Howrah on Monday evening.

The griming incident took place at Raghudevpur village under the jurisdiction territory of Rajapur police station, around 45km from Kolkata.

According to the relatives and neighbours of the deceased woman, she was shattered after the demise of her husband, Debnath Dey, who was admitted at a Howrah hospital on Saturday and died early on Monday, TOI reported. After a few hours of his death, the COVID-19 report of the man came positive.

The woman had returned home in the afternoon. The incident came to notice when neighbours found the house dark till late evening and no one was responding when they knocked her doors. Local residents informed the police and after reaching the spot, they open the door and find the dead bodies of mother-son duo inside the first-floor bedroom.

The woman, Anushree Dey was found hanging from the ceiling while her 19-year-old son, Pritam was found hanging from the railing of the window.

According to a senior police officer, the woman had told her relatives that after her husband's demise she had no hope left to live but to end her own life and that of her son’s too.
