30-year-old widow thrashed, tonsured over alleged relationship with married man

In an appalling incident brought to light from Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district, a 30-year-old widow was allegedly assaulted and tonsured for having a relationship with a married man.

The police have taken four men and two women into their custody in connection with this matter.

As maintained by the cops, the incident occurred in Sancheri village which is close to Himmatnagar town, around 116 km from Ahmedabad, on 30th July. An FIR has been lodged and the accused were arrested on 1st August.

"Vadansinh Chauhan, Rajuji Chauhan, Kalusinh Chauhan, Rakeshsinh Chauhan, Surekha Chauhan, and Sonal Chauhan were arrested for assaulting a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, and rioting. They had accused the victim, who lives in Sancheri village with her four children, of having an affair with a married man," they said.

The sufferer has stated that on 30th July when she was going back home after doing some bank related work, a man who she was familiar with and was married to the sister of one of the accused, had offered her a lift on his bike. They were thwarted by four of the accused near Raigadh village and thrashed.

“The duo was later taken to Sancheri where all six accused beat them up and tonsured the widow as well as the man who had offered her a lift,” police said.
