Heart Disease No Longer Limited to Age
World Heart Day was celebrated on Sunday, and awareness programs were organised at all hospitals in Pratapgarh. Special programs were conducted to educate patients and staff about the risks of heart disease. According to experts, heart disease is no longer limited to a specific age group, and it can affect anyone, regardless of their age.
Dr. Jeevraj Meena, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Pratapgarh, said that the number of heart patients has increased significantly, and it is no longer limited to people above 50-60 years of age. "Earlier, it was believed that heart disease occurs after the age of 50-60, but now it is being seen in people as young as 20-30 years old," he said.
Dr. Meena attributed the increase in heart disease cases to an unhealthy lifestyle, irregular diet, and lack of physical activity. He said that 40-60% of patients coming to hospitals are between 40-60 years old, and 50% of them are below 40 years old. "This is a matter of concern," he added.
Unhealthy Lifestyle, Smoking, and Stress Increase Heart Disease Risk
Experts said that an unhealthy lifestyle, including smoking and stress, increases the risk of heart disease. They advised people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management. Dr Meena said that people should avoid unhealthy habits like smoking and excessive consumption of oil and spices.
What is a Heart Attack?
A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to the heart is blocked, causing damage to the heart muscles. This can lead to chest pain, breathlessness, and even death. Experts said that people should be aware of the symptoms of a heart attack, which include chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
Prevention is Better than Cure
Experts emphasized the importance of preventing heart disease rather than curing it. They advised people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management. Dr. Meena said that people should avoid smoking and excessive consumption of oil and spices.
No Smoking Zones in Hospitals
To promote a healthy lifestyle, the hospital administration has declared the hospital premises a no-smoking zone. Anyone found smoking or consuming tobacco products will be fined Rs 200 or more. The authorities have also warned that those violating the rules will be punished with a fine or even imprisonment for up to five years.
Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign
The district administration has launched a "Tobacco-Free Youth" campaign to educate people about the risks of tobacco consumption. The campaign will be launched on November 26 and will continue for two months. As part of the campaign, awareness programs will be organized in schools, colleges, and hospitals.
