4 Reasons why sex is actually healthy during periods
Why is it so weird with men. Women are expected to be just fine with semen (sperm) every single time when they have sex. But when it comes to their "time of the month," which may last from two to seven days. men freak out at the first sight of menstrual blood.
Now some women may not feel confident during their period time due to the obvious reasons like physical effects — cramps, fatigue, bloating, breakouts, and changing hormone levels — which makes them want to avoid having sex.
However, there are some people who want to have sex with their partner but fear the rejection.
Many couples have tried to have sex during the period and they have enjoyed it more than ever.
And not only is it more enjoyable, there are also a bunch of reasons it can HELP alleviate some of the pesky symptoms associated with your period.
Here are those four reasons:
Alleviates cramps
When you get physical, your blood flow increases at the time of climax and your uterine muscles releases pain-relieving chemicals to your brain means real life cramp relief (and you get an awesome orgasm).
Increases your mood
Orgasms have been proven to release endorphins and endorphins which makes you happy… which means you'll be in a much better mood and help reduce the cranky feelings invoked by PMS.
Helps with migraines
According to a study, many women are more likely to experience migraines (and headaches in general), during their menstrual cycle or prior to it. 70 per cent of migraine patients who engaged in sexual activities reported moderate to complete relief.
Natural lube
Blood is a bodily fluid like anything else that comes out of our genitals.
But maybe you’re wondering, is it safe and sanitary?
“Absolutely!” says New Jersey-based gynaecologist Dr Angela Jones. “The biggest barrier to period sex is usually the individual on their period. It’s the same reason women don’t want to come to the gynecologist when they’re on their period. They are embarrassed, afraid of making a mess. It’s absolutely normal to have sex during your period.”
However, using protection is always important because your period won’t protect you from STIs (sexually transmitted infections). It also does not necessarily protect you from getting pregnant.
So we’re good to go on safety… but what about the logistics?
“It’s absolutely safe, just a little messy,” says Dr. Angela. “Nothing a dark towel, positioning (may be less messy having sex on your side or in the missionary position), or shower sex can either alleviate or make less of a concern.”
