Weather update: IMD issues heatwave alert, hints at early monsoon, checkout full forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its most recent weather forecast, has predicted that the monsoons are anticipated to show up before time in the country this year because the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to experience their first seasonal rainfall of the year on 15th May.

In the meantime, the weather department also issued a yellow alert for heatwave in most places in Delhi as temperatures increased to 44-45 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

EARLY MONSOON ARRIVAL:

Though the heatwave has made its arrival into the national capital once again, weather agency has predicted that monsoons are set to come early this year.

Southwest Monsoon is probable to progress into the South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal around 15th May, said weatheragency.

HEATWAVE ALERT IN DELHI:

Accordinng to the forecast by the IMD, Delhiites are likely to experience high temperatures in the next few days with the maximum temperature reaching upto 46 degrees Celsius on Sunday, May 15. The extreme heat is going to continue for at least a week without respite.

While cooler winds due to the Cyclone Asani had saved Delhi from extreme temperatures, a fresh spell of heatwave is set to return from Friday onwards, said the IMD.

Apart from the national capital, IMD has forecast heatwave conditions in parts of Northerwest India, including Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, north Madhya Maharashtra and West Uttar Pradesh from May 11 to 15.

“The maximum temperature on Friday is likely to hover around 44 degrees Celsius while the minimum will be 28 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the maximum temperature is likely to touch 45 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 46 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while the minimum will hover around 29-31 degrees,” said IMD official.

On Thursday, the maximum temperature was logged at 42 and the minimum hung around 29 degrees Celsius.
