Weather Update Alert: Heavy rains to prevail over Assam and Meghalaya; no relief from heatwave conditions in Delhi

Under the influence of strong southwesterly moisture winds from the Bay of Bengal, widespread rains and thunderstorms are likely to continue over North-Eastern India.

Rainfall amounts will generally run 20-30mm/day from Friday to Sunday and 50mm/day from Monday onwards.


To the southern part, a trough is extended from North Interior Karnataka to Kanyakumari. Isolated to scattered rainfall and thunderstorm are possible over south Peninsula India in this period.

A Western Disturbance will effect Western Himalayan Region during the next five days. In this period, isolated rain/snow are predicted over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand.

Furthermore, another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to influence those areas from Tuesday onwards.

Dry weather will continue over other areas of the country.

Widespread duststorms are likely over Northern and Central India, mainly Punjab, Delhi, and adjoining areas on Saturday.

As for the temperature, the maximum temperatures are likely to be lower than average or near-normal over South-Eastern and East India in this period. Other areas are forecast to be near normal or higher than average in this period. Severe heatwave conditions above 45 degree celsius are likely in isolated areas of West Rajasthan on Saturday and Sunday. Overnight minimums temperature will be higher than normal across India in this period.

Weather outlook for India for the next two days:

Friday (April 29)

1) Widespread rainfall and thunderstorms are possible over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya.

2) Scattered rains with lightning are forecast over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep.

3) Isolated rain is possible over Odisha, Uttarakhand, Konkan & Goa, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, with a chance of thunderstorms.

4) Isolated rain/snow is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, with a chance of thunderstorms.

5) Heatwave conditions are predicted over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chd and Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and North Interior Karnataka.

Saturday (April 30):

1) Widespread rains and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.

2) Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are possible over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

3) Scattered rainfall with lightning are predicted over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep.

4) Isolated rains are likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, North & South Interior Karnataka, with a chance of thunderstorms.

5) Isolated rain/snow is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, with thunderstorms.

6) Widespread duststorms are expected over Northern and Central India, mainly Punjab, Delhi, and nearby areas.

7) Heatwave are likely over West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chd and Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and North Interior.
