Dhanteras 2021: The five-day-long Diwali week has kickstarted with Dhanteras today, November 2. The festival is also known as Dhantrayodashi and Dhanvantari Trayodashi. On this auspicious day, people used to buy gold, silver, and other home utensils. It is believed that purchasing gold or silver ornaments on Dhanteras brings prosperity to the home.
As per Hindu belief, Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the month Ashwin and two days before Diwali.

On this day, Goddess Lakshmi came out of the ocean during the Sagar Manthan along with Lord Kuber, who is the God of wealth. Therefore, devotees worshipped the two on Dhantrayodashi.
This day also symbolizes the birth anniversary of the God of Ayurveda, Dhanvantri. It is also being said that Lord Dhanvantari emerged out towards the end of the Sagar Manthan when the Devas and Asuras were churning the sea.
How to do Dhanteras Puja:
On Dhanteras, Goddess Lakshmi and Lords Kuber and Ganesha are worshipped. Devotees light up diyas and offered sweets to the God and Goddess. Devotees also worshiped the three forms of Maa Lakshmi—Maa MahaLakshmi, Maha Kaali, and Maa Saraswati.
