Gwalior: In the heart of Bhind, a temple stands tall, boasting an unwavering flame that has been burning for 849 years.

The Vanakhadeshwar Mahadev Temple, situated on the banks of the Gauri River, is a testament to the unrelenting devotion of its patrons.

This ancient shrine, built by Delhi's King Prithviraj Chauhan, has been a beacon of spirituality and historical significance for centuries.

According to legend, King Prithviraj Chauhan, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, constructed the temple during his journey to Mahoba to battle the Chandel Rajputs. The king, known for his unwavering faith, would not proceed without offering prayers to Lord Shiva. Thus, the temple was built in the midst of a dense forest, earning it the name Vanakhadeshwar Mahadev.

Today, the temple attracts thousands of devotees, particularly on Mondays, which hold special significance during the holy month of Shravan. This year, the first Monday of Shravan coincides with the beginning of the month, and the last Monday falls on Raksha Bandhan, making it a doubly auspicious occasion. The temple's grandest festival, the Kavad Mela, takes place on Mahashivratri.

Security Measures in Place

With the influx of devotees expected during Shravan, the police have made special arrangements to ensure their safety. Superintendent of Police, Dr. Asit Yadav, has deployed 24 CCTV cameras to monitor the city's prominent Shiva temples. Drones will also be used to keep a watchful eye on the proceedings.

A team of 30-40 police personnel, led by a thana in-charge, will be stationed in the city to maintain law and order. Additionally, a mobile vehicle will be on patrol, and plainclothes police officers will be deployed to prevent chain-snatching incidents.

Similar security arrangements have been made at the Kundeshwar and Ater's Baureshwar Mahadev Temple, located near the Kotwali area.

This ancient temple, a symbol of unwavering devotion, continues to inspire generations. As the eternal flame of Vanakhadeshwar Mahadev burns bright, it reminds us of the power of faith and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.
